A brief overview of Hondo, NM. Hondo has a popualtion of about 50 and is in the middle of no where.
Hondo people are very weary about outsiders and rarely accept them. They have different views on a lot of things like
working and money. To top all this off almost everyone is related.
Highway 70 runs through Hondo and the north side is very dry and full of cacti. The south side is green, lush,
has a river running through it, and stays cooler. Of course all this could be in ones head, but it's still the side
to live on.
We have lived on the yucky side for a year now. We are right next to the hwy in a 1 bdrm house. The outside
was finished a month ago and the inside was totally redone before we moved in. Steers, horses, and lots of wild critters
frequent our front yard.
What has been the hardest to adjust to is how far away from everything we are. 50 miles to Roswell and 30 miles
to Ruidoso. Hondo does have a Conoco and a little mexican food place. Tinnie, a little village next to Hondo,
has a 5 star resturant with high prices, but good food.
I can honestly say, "I won't miss Hondo." I haven't made any friends while here and leave nothing behind.
You might be asking yourself why we live here. J.R.'s office building is about 3 blocks from our house. J.R. isn't
fond of Hondo either, he can't wait to get outta here.
